Ad's

Commercials are extremely important in todays society; I mean is there a day we dont come across an ad or see a commercial. Most likley no, why? because company's will do anything to promote there product; in fact companies in 2008 spent 412 billion dollars in commercials alone. Personally I dread watching commercials except the 5% percent that actually catch my attention. However it's the commercials that are incredibly annoying one remembers most. For example, Jg Wentworth "It's my money, and I want it now!" slogan forces me to consider chucking the closest destructive item directly into my T.V screen. It's pretty interesting how commercials not only will annoy you but change your emotional state.

Research papers

Considering the type of papers I've written in the past; research papers have considerably made my favorite genres to write about. Compiling everything that is needed for a research paper is quite beneficial for ones' knowledge; statistics for example are an important topic supporter and provide visual numbers that stick in your mind.  The only downside of research papers happen to be the length; it seems the average length is around six or seven pages which is unfortunately quite long. Also like I mentioned, there's a lot of time that goes into research papers. Obviously researching isn't a short process, you not only need to locate reliable resources but you need to filter out the information that doesn’t support your paper, as well as citing all your sources. Honestly writing any paper can be a drag; however, if it's going to be anything, it mite as well be research oriented.

Debating the 'Myth' of Standard English ~ Language

In the article “Debating the 'Myth' of Standard English” professor Birnbaum speaks on the use of proper English. I agree with what Mr. Birnbaum has to say about how we word our phrases in certain situations. There is proper English for multiple scenarios such as; Mr, Cummiski might say to his college class “I frequently hang out with these damn bastards”. Furthermore, Mr. Cummiski most likely won’t repeat this phrase in front of his grandmother on a Sunday afternoon. People might ask why proper language is so important? The English language along with any other foreign language is essentially the base of all human functions. Clearly we cannot function as a society without communication and that’s why people get edgy when people don’t use proper form, or appropriate word structure when expressing their point.

What does Multiculturalism and Diversity mean to Western Michigan University?

Multiculturalism and diversity mean a lot to many great universities including Western Michigan. The university’s goal is an inclusive environment in which the faculty along with the students reflects society. In fact, Western Michigan University designed Diversity and Multicultural Action Plan called D.M.A.P. This plan with holds multiple characteristics that Western believes “speaks to the issues of human diversity, and cultural pluralism, and human rights for all people and that it "goes beyond the recognition of diversity”. Western Michigan University believes in Multiculturalism and Diversity and thrives to express this among us students.

Peer reviewing

The Peer review is an extremely helpful exercise in regards to reviewing papers. Working in pairs is a plus because your partner will explain what needs to be fixed, instead of the random scramble when someone across the room gets your paper and just runs through it to get it over with. It’s better to have the person sitting next to you review your paper because they will feel like they have to do a good job. The peer review system helps because your peers simply catch mistakes that even the best writer will make. Also the peer reviewer may add ideas, or changes that benefit your paper. If I could change one thing about the peer review, I would make multiple students check and revise my paper, there’s no such thing as too much review.

Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

Following the narrative Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sadaris, an epiphany found its way to re-enter my mind quite frequently. Followed however; by a few instances in relation to my educational past. Education to me means a form of information and how it enters ones’ brain, whether it is visual, auditory, or kinesthetic the education means providing one with additional knowledge. Recollection from my early childhood learning brings back numerous memories; such as, remembering that learning felt some what daunting at some points. I recall teachers mentioning consequences followed by failing completion of an assignment. I don’t believe this was a necessary strategy to coerce ones assignment to be in on time, or at least it wasn’t for me! I continued to think about “what if I didn’t turn it in?” and sometimes believe it or not I wouldn’t just to experience the consequences. This childhood recollection definitely reminded me of the French teacher in the story, sometimes ways people choose to handle different situations can affect the ones there teaching in multiple differentials.
